Application Process and Timeline

If you are shortlisted for this role, the timetable for selection and training is:

  • Monday 18th November 2024 – Deadline for SV applications
  • Saturday 18th January 2025 – SV training
  • w/c 24th January 2025 – confirm SV appointments
  • w/c 27th January 2025 – operations to contract and give allocations
  • The moderation period is between February and June 2025 when work will be available

Please note a DBS check will be required prior to commencing any assignments with RSL Awards Ltd.

 

Job Summary / Purpose

Standards Verifiers are subject specialists whose job it is to confirm:

  • Centres are assessing their learners to national standards outlined in the specification
  • Centres processes for internally verifying assessment decisions are effective
  • Centres are accurately recording assessment and internal verification decisions

The main responsibilities of this role will be to undertake sampling of assessment and internal verification decisions for units from a range
of qualifications within a Principal Subject Area (PSA) to confirm national standards have been achieved and upheld across centres. Qualifications range from Level 1 to Level 5.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertake sampling of learner work within defined parameters and rules to establish that assessment outcomes and internal verification processes meet national standards
  • Attend annual standardisation training and CPD sessions then maintain the standard
  • Communicate with centres to arrange moderation samples and follow up actions
  • Support centres with moderation process
  • Produce clear written reports for centres and RSL
  • Apply appropriate sanctions where it is deemed that flawed assessment or internal verification decisions or processes mean that national standards are not met
  • Produce targeted actions for centres to assist with remedial action where national standards are not being upheld and support centres to understand and implement identified actions
  • Report back to RSL and centres following SV activity as per service-level agreements
  • Provide source materials for the standardisation of centre assessors, internal verifiers and lead internal verifiers as requested
  • Respond to feedback from SSEs and update reports accordingly
  • Develop and monitor clear action plans

 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years assessment and internal verification experience in centre-based vocational qualifications in the subject area applied for
  • Minimum of one year’s teaching experience of the relevant subject and level.
  • A degree or Level 6 qualification in the relevant subject area e.g. BA Hons (Drama)
  • A PGCE or other teaching qualification (minimum Level 5)
  • Proven track record of quality assurance
  • Good working knowledge of the relevant RSL specifications
  • Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently to deadlines

Desirable

  • Experience of a similar role for another awarding organisation
  • Experience in delivery of RSL qualifications
