Hours per week: Variable. RSL External Assessors are self-employed contractors, and successful applicants will enter into a provision of service agreement with RSL Awards Ltd.
Rate of pay: Hourly-paid rate

- Friday 4th April 2025 – live task out to EAs
- Wednesday 9th April 2025 – deadline for EAs to submit tasks
- Friday 11th April 2025 – EA feedback meetings
- Marking period is April – May when work will be available

Job Summary / Purpose
External Assessors are subject specialists whose role is to:
- Attend and pass External Assessor training and standardisation activities
- Accurately assess submissions according to the marking criteria
- Respond promptly to feedback from supervisors, correcting assessment decisions where necessary
- Accurately record and submit assessment decisions to RSL
- Respond promptly to all correspondence from supervisors and RSL
The main responsibilities of this role will be to accurately externally assess learner submissions for units from a range of qualifications within a Principal Subject Area (PSA). Qualifications range from Level 1 to Level 3.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Attend and pass annual training and standardisation activities
- Accurately assess all learner submissions according to the agreed marking criteria
- Assess all learner submissions to deadline
- Assess all learner submissions consistently across the available mark range and over time
- Respond promptly and positively to SSE feedback on the consistency and accuracy of assessment decisions
- Accurately input learner grades and upload feedback sheets to the RSL Administration system to deadline
- Respond promptly and positively to all SSE and RSL communications
Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum of two years’ assessment experience in vocational qualifications at levels 1, 2 and/or 3 in the subject area applied for
- A PGCE or other teaching qualification (minimum Level 5)
- Minimum of one year’s teaching experience of the relevant subject and level.
- A degree or Level 6 qualification in the relevant subject area e.g. BA Hons (Drama)
- Proven track record of assessment
- Good working knowledge of the relevant RSL specifications
- Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT and interpersonal skills
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently to deadlines
- Eligible to work in the United Kingdom during designated assessment windows (principally April/May)
Desirable
- Experience of a similar role for another awarding organisation
- Experience in delivery of RSL qualifications
- Experience with delivery, assessment and quality assurance of RSL qualifications
