The Opportunity

The Dubai English Speaking School – based in Academic City, Dubai – are recruiting for a Drum teacher to join their instrumental teaching faculty. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Instrumental to develop the rich artistic life of the DESS School’s and College. The role will be involved primarily in teaching one-to-one lessons following the Rockschool examination syllabus, together with general theory, aural and musicianship. The role will have responsibility for a range of other music activities including performances for school assemblies, concerts and shows. The role will involve teaching at both DESS’s primary and secondary locations.

Teaching Expectations

  • To support the teaching and learning approaches summarised in the School and College vision.
  • To motivate and inspire students through providing engaging and interesting learning activities.
  • To personalise all lessons, providing differentiated work and materials to meet the educational needs of the students.
  • To make effective use of planning time to plan lessons thoroughly in advance, to record outcomes and to compare and review the performance of pupils with colleagues as appropriate.
  • To be responsible for the management of classrooms and to provide a stimulating learning environment to increase the learning potential of students.
  • To incorporate the use of technology to enhance the delivery of the curriculum.
  • To provide quality verbal and written feedback so that students know how to move forward.
  • To monitor student progress and identify, encourage and reward success, as well as intervening appropriately where there are concerns

  • To contribute to the learning culture within the subject area by identifying, sharing and deploying good and effective practice.
  • To provide the Head of Instrumental with evidence of planning and assessment of student work as appropriate.

  • To commit to being involved in the extra-curricular provision to enhance the overall experience of students at DESS institutions.
  • To attend Parents’ Evenings, produce accurate reports on all students in the reviewing and reporting to parents processes, meeting deadlines and setting appropriate targets.
  • To attend all meetings within the agreed school structure.
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues within and outside your subject area to improve teaching and learning throughout the school.
  • To reflect on your own practice and contribute to the schools and department’s self-review / evaluation processes.

 

Person Specification

  • Have the relevant qualifications (a degree from a recognised Music College, PGCE or equivalent.)
  • Be talented and highly motivated, with a proven track record of teaching all grades in the Rockschool syllabus.
  • Be willing to contribute in a positive manner to all aspects of the College’s vision, including extra-curricular activities.
  • The ability to teach a second instrument is an advantage.
