At this stage in the year, we wanted to signpost you to the information regarding the checkpoint, which is on our key dates calendar.
We have updated our documents from last year to help you with this process:
- RSL Checkpoint Summary for Centres 2425
- RSL Checkpoint Implementation 2425
You will need to read both documents but we recommend reading the summary first as this is designed as a ‘what do I need to do’ document. You can then read the implementation document which provides more detail and context behind the implementation of the checkpoint.
The first stage will be for you to check if your centre is in scope of the checkpoint and there is a flow chart which will help you with that. Please let us know if you are unsure and we can confirm for you.
The window does not open until March so you do not need to action anything at this point, we are just making you aware.

Updated 1st September 2024
Where learners will not have enough evidence to certificate in 23/24 as planned, RSL will facilitate an autumn series. In this series, centres can provide learners the opportunity to produce additional evidence to complete their qualifications. This will be the final opportunity for learners to achieve grades for assessments from the 23/24 academic year. Please download the guidance and application forms here.
Updated 7th May 2024
We would like to inform you that there has been an update to both our Performance Tables and Non-Performance Tables Key Dates Calendars. The Key Dates deadline which was previously 5pm Friday 5th July has now been extended to the below.
Non-Performance Tables Qualifications
- ‘Input all completed internally assessed unit results’ – 5pm Monday 8th July 2024.
Performance Tables Qualifications
- ‘Submit evidence for Resit for Controlled External Assessment.’ – 5pm Monday 8th July 2024.
We have updated the key dates calendars which can be downloaded here…
Updated 4th March 2024
In November, we wrote to you about the checkpoint requirements for this academic year. In the guidance, we told you the window to complete the checkpoint would be opening on Monday 4th March and closing 18th April 2024.
Since that communication, we are pleased to tell you we have invested development time to allow centres to complete the checkpoint via the cloud.rslawards.com system, rather than having to download reports and complete a web form. This will streamline the process and make it as simple as possible for centres to complete the checkpoint.
This development has meant we need to push back the opening of the window to Monday 11th March 2024. All other deadlines will remain the same. We will update our guidance documentation to explain the steps to complete the checkpoint via the system and make it available to centres at the start of the window.
Updated 13th December 2023
We are pleased to announce the details for our CPD sessions that will take place in January 2024.
These sessions are all conducted remotely and will be facilitated through Zoom. All sessions listed are free to attend for any RSL approved delivery centre. You may attend multiple sessions as relevant to your centre but we would ask the following:
- Please limit attendees from any centre to 2 delegates per training session
- Only sign up for sessions you are certain you can attend.
All sessions will be recorded and made available to centres on demand through the help and support section of the website, so if you are unable to attend a session at the time indicated but still wish to access the content you will be able to watch the recording after the event.
You will find the links to book each event in the PDF below. Please select the name of the session you wish to book and it will take you to the relevant booking page.
Should the event you are trying to book be sold out, please email us with the date, time and name of the event you wish to attend and we will add you to the waiting list. Should a space become available, we will contact you.
We look forward to seeing you at a CPD session in the near future.
If you have any questions, please email vocational@rslawards.com for more information.
Updated 30th November2023
We hope the term is going well so far. When we released our key dates calendar at the start of the year, in response to an Ofqual requirement, we identified two checkpoints which we said we would provide further details on following further guidance from the regulator. We are now in the position to confirm that this will be one checkpoint (rather than two) and which qualifications are in scope.
We have put together two documents to help you with this new checkpoint process:
You will need to read both documents but we recommend reading the summary first as this is designed as a ‘what do I need to do’ document. You can then read the implementation document which provides more detail and context behind the implementation of the checkpoint.
The first stage will be for you to check if your centre is in scope of the checkpoint and there is a flow chart which will help you with that. Please let us know if you are unsure and we can confirm for you. We have sent this email to all centres, not just those in scope, in case of any late registrations or changes to registrations which would then put a centre in scope.
At first glance, this looks like a lot of detail. We would like to reassure you that we have streamlined the process as much as possible to get the information we need to ensure learners are able to progress.
We have updated the key dates calendars now that we have confirmed one checkpoint and these have been uploaded to our website here

Where learners will not have enough evidence to certificate in 22/23 as planned, RSL will facilitate an autumn series. In this series, centres can provide learners the opportunity to produce additional evidence to complete their qualifications. This will be the final opportunity for learners to achieve grades for assessments from the 22/23 academic year. Please download the guidance and application forms here.
We wanted to highlight a few small changes to our key dates for this term. As you are likely to be aware, Ofqual have put in place a VTQ action plan for all awarding organisations (AOs) to make sure all students get their results when they expect to. This has meant some small changes to the requirements in our key dates’ calendars for the remaining term, to fall in line with their deadlines.
We appreciate any mid-year changes can be unsettling. We have attempted to make the submissions needed as simple as possible by replacing previous word documents with web forms where we are able. Links to these web forms are in the key dates calendar.
The dates that were put in place at the start of the year have not changed. Any changes are either an addition or an amendment to what was previously asked. These are highlighted in the calendar with NEW to make it as easy as possible to distinguish the changes.
You can find the new key dates calendars for Performance Tables and Non-Performance Tables qualifications by clicking here, or scrolling below…
If you are working with several Awarding Organisations, the likelihood is that these changes will be familiar to you.
You can find more information about Ofqual’s VTQ action plan here.

Centre Handbook
The handbook is designed to act as a reference manual for the delivery of RSL Vocational Qualifications (VQ). It is intended to provide advice and guidance for centres starting to deliver RSL qualifications and to aid centres throughout delivery. It will support the administration and delivery of assessment and internal verification.
