At a young age, Robin M. Thornton decided that he wanted to be a Musician. Not believing that he could support himself with one instrument, he set about training as a multi-instrumentalist. To this end, he has specialist knowledge of all styles of Singing, Guitar, Piano, Bass Guitar and Drum Kit. Robin M. Thornton began teaching in 1993 and progressed to owning his own studio with a staff, assisting Teaching duties. After much success Robin discontinued his shop and employment duties, to focus on his writing. He now teaches from his home in Banchory (Aberdeenshire, Scotland), providing individual, person centred, lessons both in my studio and online. he also provides elocution lessons to foreign business people seeking to speak with British accents. Robin’s Educational path has taken him through a Teaching Diploma, an Undergraduate, which included components in Kodaly and Classroom Teaching, and a Masters Degree. Robin describes his teaching as, “Teaching classically, although not necessarily Classic”. Lessons are taught from a classical foundation - not limiting the growth of the student - exploring the music which currently interests the student. Lessons are available Online as well as in Banchory.

We had to find a new teacher for our teenagers a year ago and are delighted to have found Robin. His teaching is completely pupil-centred, ensuring they get the most out of every lesson and remain motivated. His infinite patience, enthusiasm and encouragement helps them to reach their potential and builds their confidence. We would not hesitate to highly recommend Robin.
Made my daughter feel relaxed in the first ten minutes say very experienced he did not push her to do anything she did not want to do kept her in formed of what he was wanting at all times could not have asked for better teacher
My daughter has had drum and singing lessons for almost three years with Robin and it has been an absolute delight to watch her steady progression. Through Robin's excellent teaching, my daughter has grown not just in musical ability, knowledge and understanding, but more importantly for me, in confidence and self belief. Most of our lessons have been in his studio but we have also used the skype lessons which are so handy and really easy to set up. If you are looking for a music teacher I highly recommend Robin.
Robin's approach is to understand the child's interests and work with them. In doing so he identifies the common ground where learning can best occur. To augment this he draws from his interest in individual learning styles, which he applies to maximise the effect of the lessons. I have sat in on many lessons and seen him use a wide variety of techniques to engage my young children, who look forward to their lessons. Even in those times when they are inevitably tired, distracted or perhaps finding new learning difficult, Robin usually finds a way to make the lesson worthwhile, by finding something that they can work on. This is a better approach than battering syllabus music into them, which would not be sustainable.
My daughter and son have had lessons with Robin for around seven years and I would strongly recommend him.
