Paul Youngs is a freelance drummer based in Ash, Surrey. He is an experienced musician and teacher, having studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, gaining a BMus (Hons) Professional Music Performance Degree with First Class Honours. With 12 years of playing experience, Paul studied at the ACM under tutors including Pete Riley (Republica, Guthrie Govan), Toby Drummond (Shaun Ryder, Cliff Richard) and Frank Tontoh (Craig David, Amy Winehouse). He has also studied privately with Mike Dolbear. Paul gigs regularly with function bands at weddings, parties and corporate events and can be seen playing behind a variety of original artists. These include ‘Fiori’, ‘Ruby Duff’, and ‘Dean McCaw’, both live and in the studio, across a mixture of full band and acoustic ensembles, as well as being one third of the ‘Dean Parker Band’. Paul has also spent time with original artist Hannah Louise recording at Metropolis Studios in Chiswick, recorded with the BBC at Maida Vale, and performed at BBC Introducing events with Calvin Goldspink (ex-S Club Juniors). He is experienced across a wide range of musical situations and genres, with particular focus on working with songwriters. Paul was a UK Young Drummer of the Year finalist in 2013 and subsequently appeared on BBC’s ‘The One Show’ in a feature with Roger Taylor. He has Rockschool Grade 8 with Distinction and ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory, also with Distinction. "Paul has been a pleasure to work with at the ACM.
