Marty Mummery

Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Music Theory.

Biography

I have been teaching guitar for 4.5 years. Before I became a tutor I have mostly studied Rock guitar and theories revolving around the instrument that are fundamentally needed for students without overloading them with knowledge that is best learnt in a classroom for music theory. I have been involved in various music projects and currently working with a band called Betty and the Chevrons. You can find more information about my music endeavours on my band page www.facebook.com/bettyandthechevrons I have now added Drums, Bass and Ukulele to my repertoire. Previously I have only taught these instruments in schools, but I have now decided to start to properly teach them in private lessons. So if you are looking at being taught any of these instruments then please get in touch. I have taught and have experience in many different teaching scenarios, such as rock school projects, one to one, groups, SEN, schools and I have taught music for a charity that was strictly for people suffering with mental health issues. I am currently studying to continue to advance and perfect in guitar and music so that I can perfect my craft as a tutor. I believe every tutor/instrumentalist should be doing this because as a musician you never stop learning. I have an enhanced DBS, I am safeguard trained and fully insured. I have a very strong passion for music, I believe it teaches children and adults different skills other than just learning to play an instrument, to learn notes in a key or on a staff. It also teaches self confidence, self belief, being able to work in a team. It also teaches you how to work within different surroundings, with different people and being able to socialise with confidence. I believe to excel in music and a chosen instrument you need to build a strong foundation in the basics. once you have all the foundations in place then learning more advanced techniques become a lot easier to understand, easier to learn and to grasp.

Additional Information

I am an experienced tutor of 4.5 years, I am the Owner/Director/Tutor of my own tuition company Double M Guitar Tutors. I have taught in many scenarios in my time as a tutor. From private one to one tuition to teaching groups for The Rock Project in Wrotham and Sevenoaks. I am contracted too 2 schools where in one I teach 120 children how to play Ukulele and I teach in another school where I teach a teenager on the autistic spectrum how to play the drums. I have also ran music classes for a local charity for adults with mental health issues. When I teach, no matter what syllabus I am using I always work with the students capabilities at the forefront. I will spend extra time with students that may have difficulty understanding the lessons. I also write my lessons to the students capabilities. For example. If a student struggles with becoming easily overloaded when presented with a book, or a lot of information in front of them, I will re-write it so that it is in smaller amounts and easier for the student too mentally digest and take in.
