Dave has been my home tutor for just over a year for acoustic and electric guitars. I'm in my mid-40's and having waited too long to learn the guitar I'm so pleased with my progress. Despite my choice not to study for the formal guitar qualifications Dave has provided lessons that are well-structured and still challenging. The lessons have a good balance of music theory (reading, chord structures and scales) and practical including different playing methods (strumming and fingerpicking) and music styles. It is all supported by an extensive range of instructional materials that are easy to understand. Dave has a great feeling for music within different genres that is appropriate for your stage of development so within a few weeks of getting the basics I was learning some of my favourite songs. I've really appreciated that Dave has transcribed some of my favourite music for me in his spare time away from the lessons. I have no hesitation in recommending Dave as a tutor as he is courteous, professional and respectful. Above all, his lessons are fun and I look forward to learning something new each week.
I took Grade 7 popular music theory lessons with Dave for just over half a year. My theory had never been great but slowly after a few lessons and Dave's help, things started to make sense! He is extremely patient and has different ways of explaining things if you don't quite understand it the first time round. Something which was different to other teachers I have had is he always goes out of his way to answer any questions you might have by text or email even on his time off. Overall I learnt a huge amount and really enjoyed the lessons. At the end of the lessons I took the theory exam and passed with merit. I would highly recommend Dave to anyone who wants a fantastic teacher.
Dave was an amazing guitar teacher for both my children taking them at an early age from complete beginners to all the way up to taking their grades. He helped us with advice on equipment, making minor repairs and even supplying an instrument. His personable approach and tailoring for our specific needs was so caring. He arranged songs for us to play as a family and sourced scores for songs that we liked. He was an inspiration.
My son and I started lessons with Dave a year ago and since that time we have both acquired a Distinction in our Rockschool Grade 1 Exams with my son scoring 95/100!
Dave has also helped to source x2 electric guitars. Along the way Dave has supplied bespoke beginner worksheets that have helped us to progress, gradually learning chords and notes along the way as well as riffs/songs etc. Can’t recommend Dave highly enough - he is good with kids, polite and most importantly can rock the guitar big time!
