ABOUT ME - Hi! My name is Adam and I am a guitarist with over 20 years combined playing and teaching experience. I am a patient and enthusiastic teacher with a passion for both music and education. In 1997, I became a runner-up in Guitarist magazine's 'Young Guitarist of the Year' competition and went on to study at the BRIT School of Performing Arts. I was awarded the Paul Smith memorial prize for best achieved in music and attained a grade 8 distinction in guitar. I have written and toured my own music, ranging from acoustic fingerstyle to prog rock and metal. TEACHING EXPERIENCE - I have been working in schools for over 12 years and currently teach at three schools in the London area, as well as providing private home tuition. I teach over 50 pupils a week and have students of all ages from 6 to 60. Many of my students have gone on to study music at college and degree level and are actively playing in bands and gigging regularly. Some have even gone on to building their own teaching careers! GOALS - My aim is to help you quickly develop in all areas of your playing, as well as working towards your own personal goals, be it learning a favourite song or passing your Grade 8 exam. My lessons are tailored to the individual's taste and requirements.

I have been taking my daughter Lucy to Adam now for nearly 3 years. In the beginning, as any parent would be, I was cautious and sat in the lessons with Lucy. I can honestly say, I felt very relaxed, confident and 100% trustworthy with Adam. His teaching skills are impeccable, he is relaxed, lets students pick what they would like to play and if it is not appropriate, his vast knowledge will choose a suitable piece to learn. If you are looking for a first class tutor, look no further as you will be looked after extremely well, young or adult. Testimony to this is that Lucy had the choice of going to BRIT school or ACM. Two of the best post 16 A Level colleges in the country. She chose ACM, as the course is more focused on guitar and she felt more comfortable. We will still be going to Adams, as Lucy will be doing her Rokschool grades, which I am confident that Adam will do a great job again. Many thanks Adam, From a very proud father - Mark
Over the course of 2011-2013, I was taught by Adam. I had owned a guitar for about a year prior to starting lessons, but took no interest in it, nor did I know any of the basics at all. I came to his lessons as a complete amateur and would have to be built from the ground up if I wanted to get anywhere. Adam was very patient with me and understood that I was a bit of a slow learner to the guitar, and kept lessons both enthusiastic and enjoyable. Eventually I found myself learning more things much more rapidly, and he allowed me to broaden my musical taste significantly. I went from somebody who listened to a very small pool of heavy metal bands, to learning and both loving new sounds in jazz, funk, indie, blues, as well as broadening my taste in heavy metal. Adam is an excellent teacher who is able to adapt lessons to your needs and is extremely easy to get along with. he allowed me to build a passion for something I never thought I would do. He makes you feel comfortable and confident in yourself so that you do not become insecure when you make mistakes, and he is a teacher that I would highly recommend anybody to have - Nicholas
I would highly recommend Adam Hooton to anyone that is looking for a professional guitar teacher. When I was looking for a guitar teacher for my son, I watched a YouTube video on Adam's website and I could see that he was a gifted guitarist and I decided to contact him straight away. Adam is absolutely passionate about guitar. His love for the guitar is evident in his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He taught my son grade 8 guitar. My son enjoyed every minute of his lessons. I am tremendously grateful for everything he taught my son and I am happy with my son's result in his Rockschool exam. He got a grade 8 distinction - Enilda
Adam has been teaching my children, aged 8 and 10, to play acoustic and electric guitar for over a year after I found him by chance on a website. We have a weekly schedule and he never fails to be reliable. He has high expectations of the children to be attentive and committed to their learning and therefore Adam gets results. He develops a personal relationship with the children over time so they feel comfortable with him and his professionalism and knowledge commands respect. Adam prides himself on teaching the 'right way' and instilling a discipline in the children. He is friendly but firm. If my children continue to play the guitar into their adult years I can honestly say that it will be part due to the strong foundation Adam has provided for them - Olivia
