Can you give us a quick introduction to the Urdang Theatre and Dance Syllabus?

The Urdang Theatre and Dance Syllabus was born from a desire to create and develop a new portfolio of graded examinations that prepare students for vocational training in the 21st century. With over 50 years’ experience in training dancers and musical theatre performers, Urdang have gathered together a team of industry professionals in order to create a systematic training model that feeds the needs and requirements of audition panels. We offer a series of graded examinations, Level 3 and 4 Teaching Diplomas and a Level 4 Performance Diploma.

What’s the benefit of partnering with RSL Awards?

Partnering with RSL has allowed us the opportunity to provide regulated qualifications that are recognised by Ofqual and can attract UCAS points for the Level 3 qualifications. Working with the RSL team has enabled us to receive support and guidance in ensuring our qualifications meet the regulatory requirements.

How have you had to adapt due to the pandemic with delivery of your courses?

Whilst the qualifications have only been launched post-lockdown, the nature of the musical theatre training offers flexibility that can accommodate both study and the examination of material via a live streaming platform if required.

What’s been your experience of working with RSL so far?

An open dialogue and genuine engagement in supporting and developing this new product with guidance at every step.

What exciting plans have you got in the pipeline for 2022?

With the launch of the Musical Theatre and Teaching Diplomas at the end of the 2021, we are now looking to launch our Street and Commercial Dance Syllabus along with further developing our performance diplomas to meet the needs of current learners.
