The RSL Learning Platform, powered by MatchMySound, will transform your online teaching offering, maximise your face-to-face lesson time and enrich your learning experience.
Whether you are a private music teacher, music school teacher, online educator or music enthusiast, technology is changing the way you teach, practise, perform and access music. It has never been more crucial to utilise the highest quality platforms that engage and inspire music education excellence.
The Learning Platform is free to access for teachers who have a free profile on the RSL Teacher Registry. Students can access the Learning Platform free for 30 days and subscribe for £4.99 per month to continue access, or, if paid annually, just £3.99 per month!
Manage your portfolio of students and keep on top of your teaching diary. Through the RSL Learning Platform you will be able to set homework tasks, monitor their progress outside of contact time and review your student’s completed assignments.
Alongside the student management portal, the Learning Platform benefits from the teacher’s video tool of choice – Zoom – allowing you to seamlessly deliver online teaching all from within the platform. Students can also record videos of their performance directly into the platform, allowing teachers to review and feedback with ease.
The Learning Platform gives users complete access to a huge library of RSL Awards’ grade book materials. Performance pieces and their accompanying backing tracks, technical exercises, sight reading / improvisation, and supporting tests currently available include Debut – Grade 8 in Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Drums, Piano and Ukulele.
Teachers can access the full capabilities and graded music materials available with the RSL Learning Platform by having a live profile on our Teacher Registry. Signing up to our Teacher Registry is simple, and, best of all, free! You will then be able to access the platform across any internet-connected device thanks to its cloud-based technology.
MatchMySound’s state-of-the-art technology provides students with immediate automated feedback on assigned pieces and practice sessions. You will be given a score out of 100, measured against pitch, rhythm, and tempo, so you can see the success of your performances and highlight areas of improvement.
The Learning Platform provides an enriched learning experience, giving you the ability to slow down and loop specific sections of your performance pieces. You will also be able to listen back to recordings of you playing along with pieces so you can evaluate your performances and have more fun with your practice.
The RSL Learning Platform has been designed to work using Google Chrome on any personal computer as well as having bespoke apps for iOS and Android. The RSL Learning Platform will work on any size or configuration of smartphone / tablet device.
The student management portal allows teachers to organise and maintain their diary of students with ease. In this area of The RSL Learning Platform, teachers will be able to assign exercises to students and review their work once it has been submitted, giving teachers a greater capacity to monitor progress outside of contact time.
Teachers and subscribing learners will have access to a huge library of RSL Awards grade book materials. Teachers are able to set pieces, exercises, scales or even sight-reading tests for students to attempt. Teachers can select from a number of options when assigning work, including targets for accuracy and attempt limits.
Performance pieces and their accompanying backing tracks, technical exercises, sight reading/improvisation, and supporting tests currently available include Debut – Grade 8 in Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Drums, Piano and Ukulele.
Scores are displayed as interactive sheet music and can be viewed as a full page or a scrolling view. The tool bar allows for tempo adjustment and sections to be looped for practising. There is also a selection of full track, backing track or metronome for students to play along with. Students and teachers can even make comments on pieces to remind them of their progress, and there's an inbuilt tuner for guitarists.
For all instruments it is possible to record exercises as either audio or video for review by the teacher. For harmonic and melodic instruments there is the added option to assess the performance for note pitch and rhythmic accuracy. Students can play along to a backing track or use the follow me function to perform pieces. The RSL Learning Platform will then score the performance giving a numerical score and star rating for the performance. Teachers can set targets for students and limit the number of recording attempts within a specific time period.
Please note: the automated feedback software is currently available for pitched instruments only.
Students get the same full functionality as teachers, including access to all our available graded materials, just without the student management section. We think it’s great to inspire students by showing them all the material they could learn as they progress through their grades with RSL. Their teacher can then curate each student’s learning journey according to their individual needs.
Upon logging into the Learning Platform, students are instantly shown any assignments still to be completed and are able to review already completed assignments. It is from this dashboard that students can communicate or take their online lesson with their teacher as well as access the graded materials and interactive score player.
Thanks to feedback from our network of teachers, we have been told that Zoom is overwhelmingly their video platform of choice for teaching due to its advanced audio options. Zoom integrates directly with the RSL Learning Platform so that your students can keep their learning in one place. Along with Zoom integration, students can also record videos of their performance directly into the platform, allowing teachers to review and feedback.
Alex Forryan, musical educator and drum teacher, has put together a couple of videos demonstrating some of the brilliant features of the RSL Learning Platform, both from the teacher-facing and student-facing views of the RSL Learning Platform app.
Please see the videos below to get an understanding of how your student's can sign-up to the platform, how you assign tasks, manage your student portfolio, utilise the in-built Zoom functionality and deliver great quality online music lessons.

The Learning Platform is a tool for teachers working with students. Teachers need to have an active profile on our Teacher Registry so that subscribed students can connect to them. Students are subscribed and get connected to teachers via an account holder's (parent) RSL account. Student accounts are given a PIN and password by the account holder which they then use to sign-in to the Learning Platform securely from their device. When they sign-in, they will use the account holder's (parent) email and their own PIN and password. The account holder (parent) is able to reset the password if necessary.
Students can be signed up for a Learning Platform subscription by following these steps:
Once you have selected your subscription type, you will need to find your child's teacher on the Teacher Registry. You can do this by entering the Institution your child is learning at (where relevant) or by entering the teacher's Full Name or part of their name. Eg. 'Ward' will also bring up 'Awards', 'Wardington' etc, or their email address.
Click 'Search' and, if your teacher has an active profile, you will be able to find them. Tick the box in the column “Select” for the correct teacher and click “Next”
NB: If your student’s teacher is not on the RSL Teacher Registry, please contact them and ask them to sign up for free here...
NB: The student should then login at least once at using the following details:
The login will initialise the student’s profile on the Learning Platform. This will enable the teacher that was chosen during the subscription sign-up to see the student through their Learning Platform interface.
The RSL system provides parents and teachers with functions to manage multiple students within their account. Typically, these are past or future candidates for RSL Graded Music Exams. Additionally, a student account can be created manually. When linking a student to the account, the account holder (parent/teacher) defines a PIN and password which they will give to the student. The student uses the PIN and password along with the account holder’s email to access the RSL Learning Platform. The parent or teacher is able to reset the password.
