As we look ahead to the festive season and all the joy that comes with it, we thought we'd pick the brains of our staff at RSL HQ to see what they'll be listening to over the holidays.

Remote working meant no opportunity to get a snap of everyone in their finest Christmas jumpers, but our staff have delivered with an assortment of festive selfies and pics in front of their trees at home. Have a safe and healthy holiday season from everyone at RSL Awards!

Joshua Chelms | Operations Manager (UK) | Darlene Love - Winter Wonderland

A Christmas Classic from my favourite Christmas Album, ‘A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector’ It’s also included in the best film (ever) ‘The Holiday’.

A great song choice, and an even better jumper.

Laura Hall | Examiner Panel Co-Ordinator | Donny Hathaway - This Christmas

The contrast of sexy, smooth vocals versus a lairy, Christmassy brass riff makes for an absolute cracker of a Christmas song. A new discovery for me that's gone straight to the top of my favourite Christmas songs. I just wish it was a little bit easier to play on ukulele...

We're loving Laura's Christmas jumper!

Dr Andrew McBirnie | Chief Examiner | The Pogues - Fairytale of New York

I can’t believe no-one last year picked ‘Fairytale of New York’! Surely the quintessential Christmas track – intense, atmospheric, great performers, a great tune, great lyrics. Conjures up images of snow, mince pies and mulled wine every time!

Here's Andrew leading the RAD staff choir this time last year!

Daniel Latham | Head of Vocational Qualifications (Academic) | Sia - Sunshine

A beautiful song that shuns the usual Christmas tropes in favour of something much more thoughtful. Some lovely lyrics in there too (if you can decipher what Sia is actually singing!).

Daniel's the one in the middle.

Joshua Morton | Senior Marketing Manager | Destiny’s Child – 8 Days of Christmas

Whilst this is far from my favourite Christmas song, Destiny’s Child “8 Days of Christmas” kinda sums up the 2020 festive season. We recently bought an Alexa, and when we ask it to “play Christmas songs” to humour our 3 year old, this song comes on first without fail… and it’s totally inappropriate for him. Hey ho, tis the season ’n’ all that. What better way to start his Queen Bey education than with this festive banger. Merry Christmas everyone!

Josh and family bumped into the big man himself when out and about.

David Duncan | VQ Syllabus Manager (Music) | Richard Hawley - Coles Corner

I always associate Richard Hawley with this time of year, his music evoking loneliness and loss while at the same time being warm and intensely sentimental; his voice well-worn and comforting, "like pub upholstery" I've seen it described. He's written better songs, but perhaps none as Christmassy as Coles Corner.

David's cute cat curled up on the couch listening to Coles Corner...a circus of Christmas cheer.

Alina Capra | Finance Officer | Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas

I like this song because it makes me realize how important it is to have friends and family around you in the festive season!

Alina (right) sporting a rather excellent jumper.

Dan Francis | Head of Sales and Partnerships (UK and ROI)| Take Six - Let It Snow

First heard these guys at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Greenwich Village, NY in the 90s. Creative genius, sublime harmonies, perfect groove to underscore all Christmas preparation activities. Did I mention that I was in New York when I first heard them?

Another (peng)winning jumper....sorry.

Sam Coade | Junior Marketing & Editorial Manager| Ariana Grande - Santa Tell Me

Cast your minds back to the halcyon days of 2014 for this one. Ms. Grande knows a thing or two about cascading vocal lines that give Mariah Carey a run for her royalties. Melismatic and mesmerising, this is a vocal performance that gets me in the festive mood while simultaneously casting an introspective tone. When Grande muses "But I don't want a new broken heart / This year I've got to be smart", is she reflecting on relationship trouble or lamenting the fact she's missed out on the latest Sony console? Jury's out.

Amelia Croom | International Exams Officer | Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You

My favourite Christmas song has got to be Mariah Carey’s 'All I Want for Christmas is You'. I associate it with hanging Christmas lights up at home and singing along with my family and everyone trying to hit the high notes.

Dan Phelps | Operations Manager (International) | Darlene Love - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

So I’m gonna go for Darlene Love with Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) as it’s really Christmassy, but also not so Christmassy that it sounds too Christmassy to enjoy at Christmas with a glass of Christmas infused wine and a Christmas mince pie to enjoy on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or at any time around the Christmas holidays.

Looks like the tree's not the only thing getting decorated in Dan's house!
