RSL’s Level 3 Holistic Wellbeing and Level 4 Holistic Wellbeing Coaching qualifications have been created in partnership with pioneers in personal development, with the goal of equipping practitioners with the skills, knowledge and coaching competencies needed to understand and foster positive wellbeing in the Creative Industries.

RSL Holistic Wellbeing qualifications are being withdrawn and will have their last awarding by 1st May 2024. Any learner registrations for these qualifications must be made by 1st March 2024. Please contact us at business@rslawards.com as soon as possible if you are intending to register new learners on to these qualifications.

Unit Information

Level 3 and 4 Holistic Wellbeing qualifications  aim to equip learners with an understanding of what wellbeing is, how the body responds to it and how learners can employ techniques to enhance and improve their own wellbeing. Units cover topics such as Holistic Wellbeing Principles, Science Behind Thought, the Human Body and Mindfulness.

This unit aims to promote the learner’s understanding of the processes involved in effective career planning in the creative digital media sector.

Working in the Music Industry

This unit will enable learners to develop the skills and strategies for generating work and income within the UK music industry. Learners will analyse and evaluate the different requirements and methods for generating work and income as a self-employed supplier as well as a creative enterprise.

Music Publishing

This unit aims to develop learners’ understanding of the publishing process and its use and application within the UK music industry.

Starting a Business in the Arts

The aim of this unit is to introduce learners to the fundamentals of business planning, to prepare them for either starting or running their own businesses in the creative industries.

Copyright and Music

The unit will develop learners’ understanding of copyright law, its application and its importance to the practitioner.

Creating and Publishing Digital Content

This unit aims to build on previous learning to develop learners’ critical understanding of the concepts, principles, tools and processes involved in creating and publishing effective digital content.

Digital Recording and Production

This unit has aims to develop learners’ skills in effectively planning the recording process and recording instruments and voices, and to develop skills to edit audio samples for future use.

At Levels 4 and 5 the Creative Industries specification offers a comprehensive programme of skill and knowledge development applicable to performers and creatives across the creative space.

Through a process of portfolio creation whilst developing an understanding of income streams, self-care, and career development, learners complete industry relevant projects.

Across both specifications unit choice and flexibility of assessment allow cross-arts collaboration to flourish and a breadth of understanding to be developed amongst learners with diverse skillsets and interests.

The units in level 4 and 5 are mandatory but are a step by step path taking the learner from a regular skilled performer to becoming well rounded creative industries professional.

Skills Development

This unit aims to develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts and methodologies that underpin skills development in the context of the learner’s principal discipline.

Self-Analysis

This unit aims to establish a benchmark for learners and identify areas that can be built upon in their development as a creative professional.

Contextual Analysis

This unit aims to develop a learner’s skills in interpreting and responding to influences on their own work.

Industry Project

This unit focuses on the creation of a programme of work to demonstrate a range of skills and technical knowledge that have been developed during the study of this qualification.

Creative Industries Income Streams

This unit aims to enable learners to recognise and reproduce various income streams in the current creative industry environment and to appraise the commercial opportunities presented by various income streams in relation to an individual area of the creative industries.

Working to a brief

This unit aims to enable learners to develop an authoritative and credible practice, suitable for a variety of different scenarios within the creative industries, and to able to explain and apply the conventions and vocabulary of their craft in relation to future scenarios working for or with other creative practitioners.

Skills Development

Qualifications Information

RSL endeavour to provide qualifications at each level which will fit with the needs of centres and learners. We design qualifications which learners can build upon, and that centres can timetable into a wider programme of study or as a full-time course. Our programme of diploma sized qualifications at Level 3 will accommodate the varied range of practical experience the Holistic Wellbeing specification is designed to deliver.

Coaching Principles

The Coaching Principles unit is the foundation from which every successful coach can build, to ensure knowledge, understanding and boundaries are used professionally and ethically. Holistic Wellbeing coaching processes are explored and explained, leading learners towards the end goal or destination of understanding the role of a coach, and their potential to help coach others.

Human Body

This unit provides insight into our physical, psychological and inner world of being human. Exploring the interconnectedness of our whole being and how psychological and physical problems arise, leads to a deeper understanding and awareness of how holistic wellbeing can create positive change that leads to positive, lasting results.

Science Behind Thought

This unit investigates the science behind the placebo and nocebo effect and the power of belief. Examining the chemical process of thought, the mind/body connection and how we communicate with ourselves as well as others, demonstrates the influences behind choice and behaviour.

Pillars of Holistic Wellbeing

This unit reveals the five pillars of the Maxcebo® method that strengthen an individual to maximise their potential for positive outcomes. The importance of beliefs, expectations, intentions, narrative (inner dialogue), and gratitude are discussed, and how the holistic effects of these key areas in our daily lives can lead to increased happiness levels and overall well-being.

Personal and Professional Growth

This unit inspires a reconnection with self and the creative mind. Exploring theories and practical exercises to develop flow are presented as well as an in depth look at the self, psychological theories of identity and authenticity and how effective questioning leads to change and growth.

Challenges of Wellbeing and Growth

This unit deals with the potential challenges or limits that humans tend to put there themselves. Identifying self- sabotaging thoughts and behaviour is key here as well as an emphasis on techniques and practical exercises to acknowledge and release any blockages that could be preventing balance and well-being.

Mindfulness

The Mindfulness unit introduces the principles of Mindfulness (MBSR), living in the moment and how everyday mindful living can springboard us towards the Holistic Wellbeing and reduce stress and anxiety. Practical exercises as well as knowledge underpin this unit.

Language

This unit takes a look at how language is used and how interpretation and meaning is understood and conveyed. Practical exercises such as visualisation techniques and choice of words are also explored and how they can create meaning and empower an individual towards positive change and growth.

Progress and Potential

This unit is centred around how to develop a forward-thinking plan of action, setting goals, including practical exercises and techniques to enable a positive outcome. Responsibility and choice are discussed in depth and how they influence a person’s well-being and happiness levels.

Professional Practise

The Professional Practise unit cements all previous learning and looks at further theories that strengthen Holistic Wellbeing. Reflection and evaluation as well as a look at professional development are discussed and encouraged in this final module.

Funding

RSL has a huge range of qualifications at each level which are funded for delivery in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. RSL qualifications are also available for funded delivery in Scotland in certain settings at certain levels. Get in touch for more info.

Help, Support & Quality Assurance

You will get access to RSL’s Help & Support portal, containing multiple QA resources, guidance documents, templates and exemplar materials, plus footage from previously recorded CPD events.

Centres have contact with two allocated RSL Quality Assurance representatives from the start of delivery all the way through to certification. These named contacts will offer the following services to support centre delivery:

  • Annual centre visit – a supportive process designed to monitor and review the way in which qualifications are planned and delivered
  • A point of contact for subject-specific academic queries throughout delivery
  • Building of a strong relationship throughout the duration of the qualification, resulting in moderation of your learner evidence with a known, named contact already familiar with your centre

Changing Awarding Organisations

Moving over to RSL Awards Vocational Qualifications is easy! Just follow these three simple steps…

1. Submit a preliminary application form.

This is found here. Once you have submitted this, our team will be in touch with some login credentials for our website, along with details of the next step.

2. Prepare your full centre approval application for submission.

Our centre approval application pack details all supporting documents that need to be included, along with a guidance document for completing the form itself.

3. Approval complete!

If the application is complete our team will be in touch to inform you of your new status as an approved RSL Awards delivery centre!

Progression and Support

Learners completing a Level 3 Qualification in Holistic Wellbeing or a Level 4 Qualification in Holistic Wellbeing Coaching are able to progress in to a variety of settings associated with both the creative industries and the wider education and employment landscape as a whole.

Learners completing a Level 3 qualification will be equipped to continue study or seek employment with advanced strategies for self-care but they may also wish to further their study in this specific subject area. They could do that by undertaking a Level 4 Coaching qualification in Holistic Wellbeing from RSL or by accessing degree programmes relating to Wellbeing which are available across 35 providers in 2022-23. Courses available include Public Health and Community Wellbeing at the University of Bradford, Health and Wellbeing at the University of Winchester and Mental Health, Wellbeing and Society at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Learners completing the Level 4 coaching qualification may wish to seek employment in the coaching or counselling sector following completion of their qualification, they could also move on to courses in Mental Health and Wellbeing Counselling, or Counselling, Coaching and Wellbeing as offered at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Prospective learners may also choose to explore other options including qualifications offered by the Royal Society for Public Health, Open College Network or VTCT.
