Welcome to the RSL Awards CEO Blog! Five things I love about what we do...
After my second month as the new CEO of RSL Awards, I reflect on all the things we do and I can’t believe how lucky we are to work in creative arts education. Here’s five things I love about what we do:
1. CertificatesIt sounds obvious, but it is such a joy to see individual students get the recognition they deserve for all their hard work. Here’s the first one that was awarded with my signature on it (redacted student details of course). A real reminder that even though we award tens of thousands of certificates every year, each certificate represents an individual’s achievement. I’m also delighted that they got a distinction!
2. CollaborationsCollaborations are at the core of what we do, it is about creating an environment when learners can demonstrate what they are good at through doing something they love. But that is just part of the ecosystem of learning and it requires some amazing partners. We’ve announced some brilliant partnerships over the last month, like The Purcell School teaching pop and commercial music, and Pauline Quirke Academy embedding new, progressive assessment for all their students. There are some more exciting collaborations to announce over the coming weeks and months.
3. Our world-wide impactAfter several years of restrictions it is amazing to see the face to face graded examinations starting up again. Over the last month we’ve had examiners in Serbia, Italy, Spain, and Malta. We now work in over 48 countries with a network of brilliant representatives and RSL offices.
4.The peopleOur team at Head Office in London are incredible. They coordinate and administer a huge number of assessments – it will be very close to 100,000 this year. The dedication to get this right for so many candidates each year is phenomenal, and the attention to detail and service they give is exemplary. However, our people extend far more than just Head Office, our network of Examiners, Assessors, and External Quality Assurers are all highly trained and highly qualified for the specialist roles they undertake. They represent us brilliantly.
5. Our MissionLastly on this list, but by arguably the most important, is our mission. Our organisation is built on recognising and rewarding achievements in the creative arts in innovative and exciting ways. I hope that the next chapter for RSL Awards is to reach more people and show the world how important creative arts truly are. Technology and global events mean that how we deliver our services will evolve, but by staying true to our mission I know that we will continue to make a positive impact on everyone we work with.
