When infamous Cruella de Vil (Kate Fleetwood) sets her sights on a new Dalmatian fur coat, there’s trouble ahead for Pongo, Perdi and their adorable litter of puppies. Based on the classic story set in the heart of Regent’s Park, this new musical adaptation, packed with puppetry, is perfect for a summer’s day. And so it was...

On Saturday, 6th of August 2022, RSL Awards members and an exclusive group of partners attended the matinee performance of 101 Dalmatians at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre (London), which also included a VIP Backstage tour. Based on the classic book by Dodie Smith, the newly commissioned musical is written by Douglas Hodge (music and lyrics) and Johnny McKnight (book) from a stage adaptation by Zinnie Harris. Leading the cast as the iconic villain Cruella de Vil is Olivier and Tony Award nominee Kate Fleetwood.

101 Dalmatians Musical at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

During the VIP Backstage Tour, while wandering through the captivating maze of dressing rooms, make-up rooms, sound stages and props workshops, we have discovered what a significant amount of work is put into creating a performance. From sound to lights to choreography, costume design, puppet-making and so on, the hard work everybody puts in is amazing to see in person. After the VIP Backstage Tour was finished, we were greeted with drinks and bites, while we enjoyed a bit of sun and a lot of chatting, making the whole experience a wonderful networking event too.

"Look for the good spots in life" - 101 Dalmatians
The sun was shining, the weather was absolutely perfect for an outdoor representation, especially when everybody was both excited and impatient to see the performance. Some of us were even more impatient than others, and that was because our partners from Platinum Performing Arts have a young student performing in the cast (Harmony Cover-Allicock) as Button. We want to congratulate Harmony and Platinum Performing Arts for the wonderful job they have done. It gives us such a buzz whenever we get the chance to see young performers on stage that have been supported by RSL Awards at some point in their artistic development.
